A trial was scheduled to begin on March 14. Prosecutor Michael Wheat did not move to detain them, and Magistrate Judge Rom Trader allowed their release on unsecured $50,000 bonds. In an arraignment hearing on Wednesday, all three defendants pleaded not guilty. The defendants, former corporation counsel Donna Leong, former Honolulu Police Commission chair Max Sword and former managing director Roy Amemiya, all turned themselves in to the FBI Wednesday morning, Hawaii News Now first reported. Three former high-level Honolulu officials are facing federal conspiracy charges after they allegedly misused city money to give a $250,000 payout to now-disgraced police chief Louis Kealoha, according to an indictment unsealed on Wednesday.
